Weekend without a car – Lake Worth Beach

1st photo this weekend as we got off Bus #62

Met the Tri-Rail train to meet friend coming up from Miami. First time without her car. Lake Worth Beach is easy. For the next two days We get around via bus and on foot. On an ARTistic journey this weekend. So if you stay in any of our Bed n Breakfast or Air B n B or future Gulfstream Hotel. You can do it without the usual transport.

We are always prepared, bathing suits under our street clothes. Life is good! Directly from train to Lake Worth Beach from Tri-rail via Bus #62 east. We are in heaven. A few hours of sunshine back on bus #62 neither of us had breakfast so we get off in town. Hungry needing sustenance, looking wind blown and very casual. LILO’s looked inviting.

Outside seating LILO’s and a reminder post that utility bill.

Rather than trek home and change. Have not worm heels since coming to Lake Worth Beach. Changed into skinny jeans, combed wind blown hair. Come out feeling better and ready to wander around downtown, it’s Friday evening.

Want something French, this is the place.

Saw something, I want at The art of French Living 519 Lake Ave. Took measurements of fabric for tablecloth. Next stop is Mtn Gallery always a favorite with a new exhibition. Located next to Cultural Plaza. First, drop my bill at the Annex, then into the gallery. Wonderful whimsical art by Resident Artist.

A show that makes you smile.

Now the best gallery in town, we chat a bit with Cory manning the gallery. My favorite here was the Rousseau just on the left when you walk in. It’s Gouache on paper? Back through town west, passing restaurants with outdoor seating, it’s a windy evening. On Lake Ave. next destination HATCH. Have to make a quick stop at drug store enroute .

We locals know by the length of the receipts where we are LOL

and met this very attractive Finnish lady. She is here for the Finnish “Midnight Festival” She just relocated here from Hawaii and her sister has a cheese booth at the festival. Amazing what a smile gets and the joke about the receipt.

Onward just over the RR track, on Lucerne Ave. we arrive at the HATCH for the “community” show. It’s up for three weeks. I know everyone and we have art hanging. Both of us submitted art from the Windisch-Hunt Atelier. Mine a 4 hour traditional en Plein air “(impressionistic” painting. Hers finished at the Atelier. She loves mine and I love hers. We challenge each other. ( Currently both of us also have art hanging at the PNC Bank on Lucerne Ave. “Flora and Fauna”. 12×12 affordable art. ) From there we stroll home looking at possible future painting, a night time scene in the style of Edward Hopper perhaps.

Saturday

Here a quick Thank You to who ever left the toys in my Little Free Library. It’s a busy weekend as the Flea Market is going on Saturdays And Sundays at the High School. So there is always lots of traffic here.

Neighbor scored for her son, loves Spider-Man.

Sailing from our docks got cancelled due to high winds, no problem. Green Market is just beyond across the bridge. Yes, Bus #62 takes us there. Ate our breakfast there. Me my favorite a Jambon, She a generous slice of quiche.

Found seating in the shade

Always see friends there, it’s that kind of community. Came to check out two of the artists who mentioned they would be displaying here.

Life is good.

Met up with several friends, making it a very pleasant morning. Next on our list the Norton Museum. Bus #1 going north on Dixie. It Got interesting here as our status was checked before we even got in the door. I have my wallet with shot and booster. She has no wallet her phone has all her vital info as she recently came back from New York City and everywhere including restaurants asked for this info. Did not anticipate this. bEWARE if you want to see the Norton Museum of Art take your Vax and booster documentation.

All masked up in the Norton Museum

Love the Norton And always visit the portrait of “Sonny Mac” by Robert Henri as I’m working on a little boys portrait and sweating the hands. Robert Henri didn’t think much of hands, and that portrait proved it.

Lake Worth High students also had art there thanks to their art teacher Brent Bludworth . Gay-Marlov Joseph and Jhony Zuniga Paz

LW High represented at the Norton.

Could not find the Blue Madonna that is holding a tablet. Did find painting of artist Fred Hunt’s art instructor from The Ringling seen here below just two paintings over to the left a painting from my Alma Mater. A very satisfying moment.

Guy Pene du Bois “ Girl in Pink Dress In the American Collection

Bus stop not far for return trip back south. We use the app Moovit only 17 min. Wait. But wait it wizzed right past us. Leaving Us and another in its wake. Well there is always another on the way. He walks to the next bus stop. We start out as well and pass him proceed to two more further stops. Would never have seen this mural riding the bus.

Discovered this very large mural at the HIVe complex

It’s an artful weekend after all. What do we talk about sitting on Dixie waiting on the next bus. We rename all the Lake Worth Beach streets after artists starting with the letter A . I live on C st. Caravaggio, no first names, must be last name of artist. We do the whole alphabet. We get back to Dixie and Lucerne walk into Starbucks then we sauntered down the street, enter the HATCH once more and realize some of the art is as good as what we just saw at the Norton. Maybe 70 years from now they will recognize some of us.

12×12’s Hanging now at the PNC on Lucerne.

We had plans to paint 12×12’s for the next show “Flying objects”. or faces on coconuts we just seen at the museum. Neither happened we were tired. We watched an episode of Candice Renoir and just chilled.

Burlesque at the Library

By 7 p.m. we recovered and strolled downtown. The promotion looked good and we’d checked the menu yesterday. they were out of the Jumbo shrimp blamed it on the Previous weeks Chalk Festival. So we settled.

The show was great. Voluptuous beautiful women. Took me back to when I first saw the famous Fan Dancer. Very entertaining next performance will be in six weeks at the Library not to be confused with the LWBeach Library also free and No cover charge here.

Host Alastair Graves aka Big Daddy

The room was small and the walls covered with book pages that will do for LILO’s Library. The Burlesque show was over, felt far to soon it was truly entertaining. If anyone has a image problems I highly recommend this show. Be who you are “awesome” fabulous!

Produced by Ruby Tesla.

Quick sketch of Freckles Galore the Latina fan dancer.

We left there took short cut to Rudy’s on south J st. It is always happening, no disappointment ever. As anticipated good music, happy people dancing with or without partners. a very lively place.

Walked home around 11:30p.m. Lake Worth Beach is a walkable well lit quirky little sea side town.

Hello from N.Y.

Enjoying our beach while looking for a condo in our area

Being in the moment is always preferable. This morning an unexpected soft knock offered up the world and I was ready. Had contacted the kids in my hood. “tomorrow is low tide want to go to the beach , be at my house, bus leaves at 9a.m. If answer is yes let me know.

Only a half hour later the beach was full of umbrellas

Almost did not make the bus, we were on time. I did not have a mask and pulling up my shirt to cover my mouth was not allowed. Yet my charge had a mask. How embarrassing. Bus driver was adamant. NO ! A black lady from the back held up a mask, it was new, I offered her money, she refused. Could not thank her enough. Was not about me but the disappointment of my charge. I wished the lady well, when she got off the bus and hoped she would have a great rest of the day. Driver could not I.d. her this was the first time she had her as a passenger.

Hello from Port St Lucie

Corina and I hit the water. It was bliss. today we learned to snorkel no seashells and no fish so we concentrated on form. Left her to her own devices. Then a family arrived with a little girl. Great, looked like her age. We asked if she would like a playmate. A match! and off to the wide blue ocean with loud squeals was Corina and Malia. I took photos and sketched.

Oh to be young
Hello from Boynton Beach. New arrivals w Malia

This was their favorite beach in the area. The kids happily played stayed occupied. I mentioned the farmers market happening not far away. Should they be not to exhausted after the beach. Drop by the Historical Museum I’ll be there volunteering this afternoon on 1-4 p.m. .

Two hours of tropical bliss seemed to pass quickly. We wandered over to the market. It was busy busy. Ran into two sketching friends

We sit where there is shade. LOL

great day to enjoy the market. Saw everything, Corina wanted popcorn and I got a loaf of bread. The bus arrived just as scheduled and we came home. FYI. As yet parking is not an issue but the SATURday bus runs on the half hour. Departs 7 min after the hour from the beach.

We picked flowers en route home for her mom. Hope she had a time to remember, as she hits her teens. Corina is nine, Malia is 7. Till another such day where we live in the moment here in our own Lake Worth Beach Paradise.

Day 26 2019 Visitors from afar at our Beach

Featured

Sun is shining and the beach is beckoning. First thing I saw was the red and purple warning flags above the Lifeguard stand. I gave up trying to keep my cap on the wind was at least 20 miles an hour. The white caps are beautiful as the waves crash into each other, but no swimming. My friend and I took off on a walk heading south w the wind behind us. As we came onto the beach this couple was just emptying a bag of trash. We encountered them again on our return and yes they had trash in their bag again. They are from Canada. Thank you! And on we went to meet the next couple and of course I asked and yes they also were picking up trash. Mom is visiting from Atlanta . Thank You!My small bag also held plastic trash, I mention it as it was .suppose to have sea shells which I collect to make earrings. Small sacrifice when people who do not even live here care enough to make my Lake Worth Beach beautiful. My companion always picks up trash. Yesterday she and her family spent their time Christmas Day picking up trash. Not much action on the beach this morning. The purple flag warns about sea creatures and I spotted lots of baby jelly fish that the waves tossed ashore. a couple from Sweden Hello Montreal

Lake Worth Beach is a place to go to enjoy our awesome sunshine even if you can’t get into the water right now.. Happy Holliday to all our visitors.

Going with the flow

Featured

just discovered that the international Book Fair starts this coming weekend. Headlining is Debra Harry starting Wed. 8 pm. And Friday is Free all day. Im bringing six programs to the Book Cellar for any bibliophile interested ‘in the going ins of major event. Does John Waters ring a bell, he’ll be there as well. Last year I purchased Supreme Court Judge Soto Mayors children’s book autographed for the Royal Poinciana neighborhood fundraiser. 20 dollar investment turned into $75 in our raffle.

Went down Friday to Books and Books in Coral Gables for a reading/presentation of Banana Republic artist/Buddhist Roberta Marks. Enjoyed seeing old friends. Next morning early start recycling electronics , paints hazardous chemicals two times a year at Coral Gables City Hall. On to my favorite breakfast place Coral Bagels where my and Fred’s art posters hang among all the other Coconut Grove Festival posters on display. Among them on the wall is my framed portrait as a King Mango Strutters. That made the front page. So this time I took photo of myself. Lots of fun as the wait staff make me feel like a star. Those that do not know me are soon regaled of my presence. LoL I was seated right under my portrait.

Next stop Bal Harbour for a gig at the brand new St. Regis 24 floor condo, with a view Right onto on the beach from the 14th floor. The job was faux finishing 3 outlet covers to to match the marble counter top. Each required an hour of patience. Then the clear blue waters of Surfside Beach beckoned.

There I also visited the post office. They’ve been decorated for Christmas already for two weeks. ( I asked) No such progress in our 33460 office, this past Friday before my departure via Tri-rail. Walked up and down Surfside past Kosher shop, closed, bridal Boutique, Starbucks, old fashioned Barbershop. A bit dazed, as I came to. felt I had fallen into a rabbit hole as I emerged at the Bal Harbour crossing.

To be continued!

Part two of going w the flow. SUNDAY This is exciting about the Guatemala children’s exhibit in Coral Gables Museum . Stay tuned next blog.

FUNdraiser for BryaNT PARK

Before we forget the great time we had Saturday during the Derby Day event here is Throwback Thursday to This Event started years ago by the wonderful person who also started the Raft Race.  Now, it happened also to be  Cinco de Mayo, first people I saw were wearing large sombreros so was I at the right party?Quite a few things changed from what we used to experience. Formerly  A more casual level with children taking part. Also missing were our commissioners who judged the hilarity of the participants.

feeling kinda lucky!

The Prize value total was enormous $ 2.750 so the winner’s possibility endless, but not so this year it was split 5 ways. Obviously, the promotion of the wonderful gifts were not noted as in previous years.

the generous sponsors

Here i took a snapshot so you all know who provided so generously. My friend Lucky Richard Guercio was one of the big winners often seen in our local establishments. He wins a lot how do you do it.?  lol  Then there is always a 50/50 that paid out $300.  Would love to know who all the other 4 Lucky winners were.  I was table hopping and capturing the fabulous hats.  I totally agreed with the 1st place winner she was awesome.

opps wrong picture

absolutely exquisite and deservedly First Place Winner

Admired the hat the moment I saw it.  What an artist!   Jessica Teutsch’s usually has a spectacular creation, a little birdie told me she had started making it back in January. ?? The event was a class act event as I tooled around and saw so many friends and kept nursing my $7 Cranberry juice.

2013 Winner and moi

Worthy of note the complete outfit with Magnolia written + painted horse by Artist Leslie Smith

Parisian Chic, not able to compete as she was on the committee. selling 50/50 tickets

would not draw any attention in  Little Havana. Won the loudest shirt. hahaha

The actual race, 2 min. 4 seconds winner Justify and has a chance to be a Triple Crown winner as was Secretariat who made this race in 2 min. 24 sec.  (I was in the infield that year, won $270 ) now American Pharoah’s  timing 2 min and 26 sec.   Not a spot of mud thrown on Justify or jockey this was a clean race on a muddy track ck those times again.  Now back to the party which i always said was one of the top Fundraiser in our town.  Seen working hard was Tabitha, Jon Faust the consummate Lake Worth mc, The awards were unisex (so sad)

definitely had the Audrey Hepburn feel

two more local artists

If you’re looking for more great photos  Judge Sami Makela has some, always Tom Johnson, and of course Leonard Bryant never disappoints. Darin Engle also was seen taking photos.   If you didn’t see your friends here they made it to the other Derby Party which had 250 plus guests and some even attended from KY.   Anyone want to share photos from there just send them to moi.  My camera battery was exhausted.

Mockingbird Earth Day

A charming gesture for a well-done performance (last photo in blog the reveal)

Earth Day Celebration at Mockingbird Gardens was a wonderful event yesterday.  So here are some of the photos of its participants.  For me the musical performances were the joy,  but before anything got started Mother Earth had two subliminal messages.  Not to be ignored.  Like, welcome to Florida and sugar sand, also a good sign was the Charette. If you have google click on their daily logo image and listen to Jane Goodall.

Earth Day recognition had been read at City Hall and here repeated for all in attendance by our Commissioners
Scott Maxwell and Herman Robinson

Enjoy the photos with minimum commentary.  This event was sponsored by Kiwanis with lots of participants known in our community.

The event was perfectly orchestrated with the help of Mother Nature

Just about everything showcased was handcrafted, recycled and earth-friendly organizations were there to raise our consciousness. The event was from noon to 5 one of the highlights this year was a  Adopt a Tree, which came with a certificate.  Neighbors and friends were visible and if you recognize them you realize they care about being earth-friendly in how they deport themselves.  Recycling, picking up trash when not asked or organized.

repurposed and handcrafted side by side

Arts Loft Artist with his creations (in the buy and sell section)

On hand were artists who actually make their own creations with their own hands.    Speaking of artists these performers were outstanding true artists nurtured in our community.

and seeing the future of our earth, of course, all the kids that had the opportunity to experience and be part of this Earth Day event.

While this was going on there was a charette also dealing with our desire to see improvements in our community and don’t think it’s not about our earth as it impacts all humans in our community, not just the me me mes  in the attendance but something for the greater good .
